China Injects New Vitality into Global Governance
Recently, the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With the theme "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet," the summit addressed the issues of our time and aligned with the aspirations of the people. The summit focused on two core priorities: first, eliminating hunger, poverty, and inequality, and promoting global inclusive growth and social equity and justice; second, deepening global governance reforms, advocating for multilateralism, and strengthening international cooperation mechanisms to tackle global challenges.
At present, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation, with security disorder, development imbalance, and governance dysfunction, where "black swan" and "gray rhino" events can occur at any time. Affected by this, the global governance system is facing multiple complex challenges, and global common development remains a long and arduous task. First, the intensification of great power competition, with some major powers engaging in zero-sum games or building walls, poses a structural challenge to global governance reform. Second, conflict and turmoil have become the norm in many regions, exacerbated by some countries continuously fanning the flames and taking sides, severely impacting global peace and development. Third, unilateral actions are rampant, and multilateralism faces a backlash, with the global governance system faltering and its effectiveness diminishing, significantly increasing the risk of disorder in the existing international order.

Overall, reducing the global governance deficit and improving the governance system requires the joint efforts of countries around the world. As the largest developing country and a responsible major power, China is injecting new vitality into global governance with practical actions and forward-looking concepts. At this summit, China announced eight actions to support global development, committed to building a just world of common development, and proposed to jointly build a just and reasonable global governance system, demonstrating China's responsibility and commitment to consolidating global governance consensus, mainly reflected in three aspects:
First, the "Five Major Proposals" promote the transformation and improvement of global governance. Faced with the increasing challenges of global governance, transforming and improving the global governance system is particularly important. China, adhering to the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, deepens its participation in global economic governance and institutional reforms, gradually becoming the "stabilizer" of world development, playing a significant role. China clearly stated in the second phase of the summit that the G20 should further build international consensus in economic, financial, trade, digital, and ecological fields, improve global governance, and promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive and beneficial economic globalization. Currently, global governance is facing political and security interference from some countries, causing global trade to suffer and governance mechanisms to fail. China's proposals provide a clear direction for improving global governance and can actively contribute to promoting a more just and reasonable new international economic order and achieving common development and prosperity for all.
Second, the "Eight Actions" work together to promote common development in the world. Against the backdrop of global turmoil and transformation, slowing growth and increasing imbalance highlight the necessity and urgency of common development in the world. China, using its poverty alleviation achievements as an example in the first phase of the summit, emphasized that this is the result of the government and people working together and striving tirelessly, demonstrating a tenacious and persistent development will and practical strength, proving that the poverty problem in developing countries is solvable, and even the weak can soar. From this, the challenges of common development in the world also need a global perspective, requiring the construction of a more inclusive governance system, efficient multilateral mechanisms, and active regional cooperation, which is the only way to solve global problems. China has always been a member of the "Global South," a reliable long-term partner for developing countries, and an activist and practitioner in supporting global development, willing to work with other developing countries to achieve modernization. China's announcement of eight actions to support global development will undoubtedly inject strong momentum into common development in the world, promoting the common development and shared prosperity of human society.
Third, it demonstrates the major country's responsibility of "caring for the world." Faced with the complex situation and many challenges of global governance, China has always demonstrated the responsibility of a major country. As a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a maintainer of international order, China continuously proposes new concepts and plans, playing an active role in improving global governance and common development in the world. At this summit, China not only pointed out the direction for changes in different fields of global governance but also showed the results of China's practical actions and willingness to cooperate. These concepts and plans highly highlight China's feelings of caring for the world, truly reflect China's courage to take responsibility, and show China's determination and sincerity in promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. Strengthening international cooperation is the only way to build a just world and a sustainable planet. To turn concepts into actions, China relies not only on its strength but also on uniting like-minded partners, adhering to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, actively promoting global development partnerships, building extensive issue alliances, promoting concept-sharing and practical reference, and promoting the global governance system to move towards a more just, reasonable, inclusive, and beneficial direction.
Building a just world and a sustainable planet is a long-term task that requires the active leadership of major powers and the joint progress of the international community. Faced with many challenges, the international community should maintain an open and cooperative attitude, replace isolation with cooperation, and work together to turn beautiful visions into practical results.
